Home Office

Glastonbury, Connecticut

The client and their spouse live in ranch style home. Their living room became a home office after the 2020 lockdown. The office was adjacent to the kitchen (center of distractions and noise) and had limited lighting. The client wanted a permanent solution. The design focused on day to day living, digital office necessities, and health/wellness.

A room connected to the master bedroom, a once spa room with a large jacuzzi tub, was unused by the couple apart from minor storage. The proposed office space is the furthermost from the kitchen, is approximately 144 square feet, equipped with numerous windows and a large skylight providing the space with south and west-facing illumination.

The space Lacked the following:

-Network reception

-Electrical receptacles

-Color + flooring

-Furniture

The following was added to modernize the space to be up with office building standards:

-Installed Cat5 hardline from Network Router

-Multiple receptacles

-Painted all walls+Ceiling

-Dark teal- calming color and shifts from blue to green throughout the day.

-Solid flooring

-Natural maple- Natural materials provides a comforting feeling

-Updated lighting

-Modernized the lighting to aid with darker winter days

-Added Furniture for work + comfort

-Installed shelves for a personal background for video chatting meeting

-Installed a heat recovery ventilator (HRV)

Features

Furniture

The key features of this contemporary office are its Humanscale Freedom chair and G6 keyboard system. Their products are the best solution for ergonomic office furniture and accessories. Not every moment in the office is about work, taking personal calls, a break, and adding in movement from one position to another, a reclining chair and ottoman were provided.

Digital Office Necessities

Observing a colleague with a flat surface during a video call is not appealing and fake backgrounds are dreadful. Creating an engaging background is important to consider when designing a home office. The shelves and credenza create a curated space for the client to place personal items.

Health and Wellness

Every office ought to have fresh air, while there are windows, the client suffers from seasonal allergies. The Fantech's heat recovery ventilators (HRV) with an additional filter was installed to bring in the filtered fresh air, exhausting old air, and without losing energy to the heating and cooling of the new air.
